Game Of Thrones: A telltale series. Episode 5 Xbox 360 Review

CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS

Episode five starts with Ramsey Bolton's arrival at Ironrath. He declares that he is now no longer on the side of the Whitehill's. It is now each house for themselves, the house victorious will have total control of the Ironwood. We also endure the death of a side character in the presence of Ramsey, which reminds us of how brutal the world of Game of Thrones is with some very graphic animations, but also leaves the Forresters devoid of allies, consequently leaving Ironrath vulnerable to attack.

Things are getting a lot worse for Mira in Kings Landing. Your fellow handmaiden Sera has now decided you are too dangerous to be friends with, and with Margaery considering replacing you, Mira is in a very precarious position. Cersei makes her second appearance of season one here. Your previous encounter with her felt very much like an interrogation, and this one is no different. She offers to help you with your problems in exchange for your help in extracting information from Tyrion, who is currently locked away in a cell. While you can not refuse her offer, you are able to stay loyal to Tyrion if you wish, but this may affect how Cersei responds to what you tell her, something that must wait until the final episode.

After leaving Daenerys's camp, Asher and Beskha go in search of fighters in Meereen. These are clearly people from Beskha's past, but this does not aid you in your attempt to recruit them. After displaying your skill in combat to them, you make a choice which may earn or lose you their respect. However, this is robbed of consequence, as whichever option you choose, they still follow you on your ship to Westeros. Asher's uncle Malcolm however, has decided to stay with Daenerys and act as her advisor. Therefore, you feel cheated if you sided with Malcolm in the early episodes when playing as Asher, as he is not even coming with you to help defend Ironrath, meaning your relationship with him seemed rather pointless.

Gared's scenes here are fairly mundane. In truth he does very little throughout this chapter. It essentially boils down to conversation pieces, discussing whether or not to go in search of the North Grove. These however, seem fairly irrelevant, as it was very predictable that Gared's story would inevitably take him to the North Grove. Hunting and combat scenes helps to liven things up a little, but this was a very forgettable episode for him.

Episode five is also the setting for the biggest decisions the player will have to make so far. Back at Ironrath, Talia helps you in discovering who the traitor on your council is, meaning you must then deal with this however you see fit. For the first time in the whole season, two main characters interact with each other. Asher has now landed with his army of pit fighters and Rodrik meets him as he arrives. In typical Game of Thrones fashion, surprises come out of nowhere, and the end of this episode really is shocking. You will not want to make the decision that must be made.

While events have become fairly uninteresting for Mira and Gared, compared to previous episodes, Rodrik and Asher find themselves in all kinds of trouble. This penultimate episode of the six part season has introduced major decisions that are nothing less than game changing.
