Game Of Thrones: A telltale series. Episode 4 Xbox 360 Review

CONTAINS SOME SPOLIERS

Episode four begins with Gared being confronted about the events at the end of episode three. Because of what happened, he now faces imprisonment for his actions. However, it did not make a lot of sense that despite a fellow recruit being an eyewitness to what went on, you are punished in the same way. It simply does not matter whether you strike first or act in self defence, as you still suffer the same fate. With the help of Cotter, you escape from prison, and you must make a decision that will affect the following episodes heavily. There is also an exciting combat scene involving wildlings, and we meet Cotter's sibling north of The Wall.

Across the narrow sea, Asher has made his way to Meereen where he encounters an unusually hostile Daenerys Targaryen. She offers you a deal where in exchange for your help in invading Meereen, she will aid you in acquiring an army. We also learn about Beskha's past and why she did not want to come to this place. During the invasion, we meet Beskha's old master where we must decide to encourage or deny her of her justice, as the latter may anger Daenerys, potentially affecting how much she will help us. We also get to take part in what I believe is the best action scene in the series so far. Along with Beskha and Croft, a high ranking member of Daenerys's sell swords, you must sneak your way through an outpost, taking down guards as you go. Seeing how we are rewarded by Daenerys for our actions must wait until episode five though.

Up at Ironrath, the Forresters are finally able to fight back against Gryff and his Whitehill garrison. The Glenmore soldiers arrive at Rodrik's side as allies, in return for your help in ending Gryff's tyrannical reign over Ironrath, also meaning Elena Glenmore will not have to marry him. In the throne room, Rodrik is able to take revenge on Gryff in a rather brutal scene, where you can essentially bash his skull in as much as you want until your mother stops you from killing him. In an intriguing twist, you are invited to the Whitehill stronghold of Highpoint, to agree peace terms with Lord Whitehill. This makes for a very tense showdown and the game makes you think quickly about how to handle things. However, one choice you can make results in you having to restart from the last checkpoint. What is the point of it being an option if it results in game over? While an odd design choice, this is still great fun to play through.

Mira's scenes in this episode involve her learning more about the Ironwood merchants situated in Kings Landing, and what Lord Whitehill is planning. This involves Mira eavesdropping on conversations and meeting a variety of side characters who all have their own secrets which you can use to your advantage to extort information out of others. Furthermore, Sera's secret comes up more than once in conversation, which will test how loyal you are to your fellow handmaiden. This episode shows how much Mira has changed over the game, from a timid handmaiden, to someone now deeply involved in multiple plotlines.

While we spend less time with Mira than in previous episodes, everyone else is involved in very interesting storylines with big developments occurring. Episode four is also full of great action scenes and I personally felt this was the best episode yet.
