Game Of Thrones: A telltale series. Episode 2 Xbox 360 Review

CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS

This second instalment of Telltales Game of Thrones takes us across the narrow sea to a brand new location, Yunkai. Here we are introduced to Asher Forrester, and his companion Beskha. Both are sell swords and we meet them during one of their contracts, where they come in to conflict with rival sell swords from a previous job. This provides a good and rather graphic action scene. It is in Yunkai that we also meet Asher's Uncle, who has come to take him back to Westeros to help save House Forrester. The three of them must travel to Meereen to gather an army to go back with. Asher's moments in this episode are mainly combat based, and he does not have to make any decisions that seem like they would affect him in future chapters, but Yunkai does provide a good change of setting and well crafted action sequences.

Back in Westeros, a surprise new playable character arrives at Ironrath, in the form of Rodrik Forrester, who we assumed was killed during the fighting at The Twins. He has now returned, although very badly injured, and presumes to take control of House Forrester. Tensions between the Forresters and the Whitehill soldiers provokes instances of conflict. Rodrik also must try to convince Elena Glenmore to marry him, in order to get the support of her fathers army, which interestingly, links with how you play as Mira. We even get a unexpected appearance from Lord Whitehill, which makes you choose between your personal pride or your family, which was a tough decision.

Episode 2 introduces another new location to us, as Gared has now made his way to The Wall. While playing through these sections, I could not help but feel that Gared's story was very similar to Jon Snow's from the television shows, in the sense of being involved in conflicts with the other members of the Nights Watch. However, similar to episode 1, Gared's parts are forgettable due to very little in the way of advancing the story of the North Grove. Instead, the player must perform tasks around Castle Black, such as firing at targets with a crossbow and sword fighting. These fairly mundane activities felt like wasted time. Having said that, you do get to meet Jon Snow, voiced by Kit Harington himself, which is a nice touch.

Mira Forrester is the highlight of this episode. She learns a secret from her fellow handmaiden that, depending on how you want to play, will surely come in handy during future episodes. We are also treated to further story development involving Margaery and Tyrion, as well as whether you want to betray Margaery's trust to aid your family back in Ironrath. On top of all of this, there is also a murder plot that involves the servant boy Tom, who will clearly have a role to play in the coming episodes. Just like the television show, Kings Landing is full of action.

This episode was generally an enjoyable experience, but simultaneously, did not provide anything that spectacular. While Mira Forrester's story line is quickly becoming the star of the show, events in the other parts of Westeros are not that exciting at the moment, but I am sure they will pick up. Asher meanwhile, is on his ways towards Daenerys Targaryen, which I hope will provide for some intriguing gameplay.
